Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Integrated Innovation Science is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. Plagiarism, in any form, is considered a serious violation of publication ethics and is strictly prohibited. This policy is established in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and best practices to ensure the originality and credibility of the research published in the journal.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of using another person’s work, ideas, data, or text without proper acknowledgment, thereby presenting it as one’s own. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim from another source without citation.
- Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of one’s own previously published work without proper disclosure (redundant publication).
- Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting another’s work without sufficient acknowledgment.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: Piecing together phrases or ideas from various sources without proper attribution.
- Data Fabrication or Falsification: Using fake or manipulated data to misrepresent research findings.
The journal allows a maximum similarity index of 20%, excluding references, direct quotes, and commonly used phrases. Any submission exceeding this threshold will be subject to additional scrutiny.
Plagiarism Detection
All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using advanced plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar tools). The results are evaluated by the editorial team, considering exclusions such as properly cited content and bibliography.
- Submissions below 20% similarity: Proceed to the peer review process.
- Submissions exceeding 20% similarity: Returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright, depending on the extent and nature of the duplication.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are expected to:
- Submit only original work and properly cite all sources, including ideas, data, figures, and text.
- Avoid self-plagiarism by disclosing prior publications or submissions of overlapping content.
- Ensure that the similarity index of their manuscript is below 20%, including revisions and resubmissions.
- Obtain permissions for any copyrighted material used in their submission.
Editorial Responsibilities
The editorial team ensures the ethical review of all manuscripts by:
- Screening for plagiarism at the initial submission stage.
- Investigating any cases of suspected plagiarism thoroughly and in line with COPE guidelines.
- Taking appropriate actions, such as notifying authors of issues, rejecting submissions, or retracting published articles.
- Ensuring confidentiality during the review and investigation of allegations.
Penalties for Plagiarism
The journal imposes the following measures for manuscripts found to contain plagiarized content:
-
Initial Submission Stage:
- Manuscripts exceeding the 20% similarity threshold will be returned to authors for correction or rejected outright.
-
During Peer Review or After Acceptance:
- Minor plagiarism: Authors will be required to revise the manuscript.
- Major plagiarism: Manuscripts will be rejected, and the authors may face a submission ban for up to two years.
-
Post-Publication:
- Retractions will be issued for published articles containing significant plagiarism.
- Notifications may be sent to the authors' institutions, funders, or relevant authorities in severe cases.
Retraction and Correction
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will:
- Issue a retraction notice for articles with significant ethical violations, accompanied by an explanation and proper acknowledgment of the original source.
- Issue a correction notice for minor plagiarism that does not compromise the integrity of the article's findings.
Compliance with COPE
The Journal of Integrated Innovation Science adheres to COPE’s guidelines on plagiarism to ensure fair, ethical, and consistent resolution of all cases. This policy emphasizes the journal’s commitment to fostering academic integrity and trust in the scientific community.
By enforcing a strict plagiarism policy with a maximum similarity threshold of 20%, the journal ensures the publication of high-quality, original research that upholds the credibility of the academic record.
