Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Scientific Writing

The  Journal of Integrated Innovation Science acknowledges the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research and writing processes. While AI technologies, such as natural language processing tools, grammar checkers, and data analysis software, can enhance the efficiency and accuracy of scientific writing, their use must be carefully governed to uphold the integrity, originality, and ethical standards of academic publishing.

This policy provides guidelines for the responsible use of AI tools in preparing manuscripts for submission and ensures transparency in their application.

Permitted Use of AI Tools

AI tools may be used to support the following tasks, provided their use does not compromise the originality or ethical standards of the work:

  1. Language Editing and Grammar Checking:
    • Authors may use AI tools (e.g., Grammarly, DeepL, or similar software) to enhance clarity, grammar, and spelling in their manuscripts.
  2. Data Analysis and Visualization:
    • Authors can employ AI-driven analytical tools for data processing, pattern recognition, and generating visual representations of research findings.
  3. Literature Organization:
    • Tools that assist in managing references or organizing literature (e.g., Zotero, EndNote, or Mendeley) are permitted.

Prohibited Uses of AI Tools

The following uses of AI tools are strictly prohibited:

  1. Automated Manuscript Generation:
    • Authors must not use AI-generated text (e.g., ChatGPT, GPT-4, or similar tools) to produce sections of their manuscript without appropriate review, verification, and acknowledgment.
  2. Unverified Data Generation:
    • AI-generated data or results must not be presented as original research without validation and proper disclosure of the methods used.
  3. Plagiarism and Misrepresentation:
    • The use of AI tools to paraphrase or manipulate existing content without proper citation is a breach of ethical standards.

Transparency and Disclosure Requirements

Authors are required to disclose any use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. This includes:

  • Specifying the tools used and the purpose of their application (e.g., grammar editing, data analysis).
  • Including a statement in the acknowledgments or methodology section detailing the role of AI tools in the research and writing process.

Example Disclosure Statement:
“This manuscript was prepared with the assistance of AI Tool , which was used for specific purpose, e.g., grammar correction or data visualization. The authors confirm that all content, analysis, and conclusions are their original work.”

Author Responsibilities

  1. Accountability:
    • Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and ethical compliance of their manuscript, regardless of the extent to which AI tools are used.
  2. Verification of AI Outputs:
    • Authors must critically evaluate any AI-generated outputs to ensure their accuracy and appropriateness for scientific purposes.
  3. Avoidance of Over-Reliance:
    • Authors should avoid over-reliance on AI tools for conceptualization, critical thinking, or interpretative aspects of their research.

Editorial Review and Compliance

The editorial team reserves the right to:

  1. Request Clarifications:
    • Authors may be asked to provide additional information on the use of AI tools during the peer review or editorial process.
  2. Reject Submissions:
    • Manuscripts found to contain unacknowledged AI-generated content or to have misused AI tools will be rejected.
  3. Investigate Misconduct:
    • Cases of ethical violations involving AI use will be investigated in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics and the COPE guidelines.
